Social Networking Pitfall: Charlotte teachers disciplined for Facebook posts
WRAL.com: Charlotte teachers disciplined for Facebook posts.
This article from WRAL.com points out a potentially costly pitfall associated with social networking sites like Facebook. While some may invoke the argument that the teachers involved in these situations have a right to free speech — which they do — in this case their Facebook posts were related to their jobs and have the potential to adversely impact their work.
From the article: “When you’re in a professional position, especially one where you’re interacting with children and parents, you need to be above reproach,” school district spokeswoman Nora Carr said. “I think they just didn’t think these things through. That’s kind of mind-boggling.”
What Makes News Credible?
On LinkedIn, members are given the opportunity to answer questions posed by other members.
This question was posed in the public relations category: “What makes news credible? With so much information available online, and so many places to obtain information, what makes news credible?”
My response:
In my view there are a number of factors:
1. If facts are offered, is a source cited? If so, is the source a trustworthy one?
2. Is the information presented without being unnecessarily sensationalized?
3. Does the information appear to have been thoroughly researched?
