Communication Tip: Reach People the Way they Want to Be Reached
by Frank Williams
Different people have different communication preferences.
Some people prefer to be reached by e-mail. Others prefer phone calls. Others prefer face-to-face meetings. Others prefer text messages or even Facebook messages.
If you are doing business with someone, you should make an effort to reach them the way they want to be reached.
Some may wonder why this is important. I will share a few examples that I hope will shed some light on the issue.
Pioneer Strategies’ president chairs Boy Scouts’ first Leadership Breakfast in Leland
LELAND, N.C. — Frank Williams, a Brunswick County native and president of Pioneer Strategies, Inc., recently served as Chairman of the Boy Scouts’ first Leadership Breakfast held in Leland. The event benefits the Cape Fear Council, which has held similar events in Wilmington and other nearby communities.
“My first leadership role was serving as a Patrol Leader in Boy Scout Troop 265 here in Leland,” says Williams. “The Boy Scouts do a tremendous job of teaching young men about character, integrity, responsibility and citizenship – values that our society needs more than ever. I am proud to have helped organize this event to support the Boy Scouts in southeastern North Carolina. I am especially excited to have served as Chairman of the first leadership breakfast held in Leland.”
Collateral Damage caused by Failure to Communicate
by Frank Williams
Poor communication can lead to a multitude of negative consequences. I attended a recent conference that demonstrated this fact.
A group of people successfully organized a similar conference in the same town a year ago. This year, several other organizations got involved with the conference. The marriage looked like a good one — at first.
This year’s conference was a success by most obvious, objective standards: there was a large crowd in attendance, and the event was well-organized.
However, there were still problems — problems that could have been avoided. Based on my observations, these problems were the result of a colossal failure to communicate.
