Pioneer Strategies’ president makes presentation on earned media & public relations in political campaigns
LELAND, N.C. – Pioneer Strategies’ president, Frank Williams, conducted a workshop on earned media and public relations in political campaigns for the John William Pope Civitas Institute’s Academy of Practical Politics in Raleigh on Wed., Mar. 24.
“My goal for this presentation was to provide the college students in attendance with a birds-eye view of the public relations process and how it applies to the world of political campaigns,” says Williams. “We focused on understanding the media’s role and discussed the mechanics of how to write and distribute a press release. Additionally, we discussed a number of things NOT to do. It is my hope that the students who participated left with a greater understanding of how to effectively incorporate public relations and earned media into their overall campaign strategy.”
According to the Civitas Institute’s Web site, the Academy of Practical Politics goes beyond the average political science class. The Academy takes college and graduate students into the world of practical politics by teaching the fundamentals of campaign management. Students work together as members of campaign teams to apply what they learn in class by planning strategy and a media program for competing North Carolina congressional campaigns.
