Small Business Survey Results: Views of Marketing and Public Relations

This is the third installment in a series of posts focusing on the results of our recent small business survey.  Please note that this is not a scientific poll.  Please also note that response totals may not be recorded at precisely 100.0% due to rounding.

When asked about their views of the differences / similarities between marketing and public relations, respondents answered as follows:

  • Marketing and public relations are the same thing:  7.0%
  • Marketing and public relations are different:  87.0%
  • Not sure:  5.3%

When asked about the relative importance of marketing and public relations, respondents answered as follows:

  • Marketing is more important than public relations:  5.2%
  • Public relations is more important than marketing:  17.2%
  • Marketing and public relations are the same thing:  8.6%
  • Marketing and public relations are different, but equally important:  69.0%

When asked how concerned they are with building a name for their business, respondents answered as follows:

  • Very:  50.9%
  • Somewhat:  31.6%
  • Not very:  12.3%
  • Not at all:  5.3%

When asked how concerned they are with spreading the word about their business, respondents answered as follows:

  • Very:  63.8%
  • Somewhat:  22.4%
  • Not very:  10.3%
  • Not at all:  3.4%
